I have always enjoyed studying the American Civil War. I remember writing a high school book report on MacKinlay Kantor’s Andersonville, but it was Ken Burns’ documentary on the Civil War that continued to pique my interest. One of the theme songs from the series, Ashokan Farewell, perfectly fit the mood, although it was written by Jay Unger in the early l980s. I’ve played and recorded this tune several times, but I wanted to try a new arrangement, and the mood of these pandemic times provided a good opportunity. Hope you enjoy my sax and steel guitar version, and let’s hope for some healing times.
